Office Policies

Billing rates.  Most matters are billed at an individual rate based on the type of case, complexity of the case, and level of research and legal work required.  In some situations, such as for certain special education matters, we may be able to provide a flat fee for service.  You will be provided specific information about your billing rates or fees in your initial consultation.

Initial deposit.  Most matters involving legal representation with our firm require the payment of an initial deposit which the firm will maintain in a trust account and bill against.  Specific information about the initial deposit required for your matter will be provided to you in your initial consultation.

Agreement to Represent.  No work will be conducted in you case, and you will not be a client of the firm, until both you and the attorney have signed a written Agreement to Represent.

Client meetings.  Meetings are by appointment only and walk-ins are not accepted.  Please contact our office to schedule a phone or face-to-face meeting.

Office hours.  In general, office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  In certain circumstances, we may be able to schedule appointments with you after hours.  If you have an emergency after hours, we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.

Return calls and emails.  We do our best to respond to phone calls and emails within one business day.  However, at times, due to court appearances, mediations, or other appointments, that timeline may not be possible.  Regardless, we will respond to you as soon as we can.

Vacations and holidays.  The firm will be closed during periodic vacations and holidays.  Current clients will be notified of firm closings in advance, and notification of scheduled office closings will be posted on the firm's website.  If you are a new client and leave us a voicemail or email message during a period in which the office is closed, we will get back to you as soon as possible after the office reopens.

Family-friendly firm.  We understand that it can be difficult for families to leave children at home in order to meet with us.  Therefore, we welcome children to come to appointments as long as the subject matter of the meeting is not inappropriate for a child.  Please notify us in advance if you plan to bring your child to a meeting so we can ensure we have appropriate space.  Please note that we are not able to offer separate child care.


Online communications.  The firm uses a secure client portal for most client communications and billing.  If you become a client of the firm, we will send you an introductory email explaining more about the client portal and how to access information and documents.

Invoicing and payment.  Invoices are sent via the client portal at the beginning of each month for the prior month's work.  For clients who have paid a deposit, the invoice total will be deducted from the deposit balance.  For payments that are not coming out of a deposit, payment is expected within 15 days of the date the invoice was sent.  Payment plans may be available in certain situations for clients with limited means.  If you would like to speak with us about a payment plan, please do so as soon as possible, as we may not be able to guarantee a payment plan after work has commenced in the case.

Payment methods.  We accept checks, Square, PayPal, Venmo, and all major credit and debit cards.
